Yes, the 2024-2025 Lady Dragon Soccer team clinched the district title tonight with their victory over Keller Central 7-0. But for once, in a very rare instance, clinching a district title isn’t the story. And while we know Head Coach Matt Colvin never wants to have the focus on him, tonight it’s all about him.

Tonight’s victory for Head Coach Matt Colvin was his 500th career victory!!

All FIVE HUNDRED victories have come as the head man in charge of the Lady Dragon Soccer program here at Southlake Carroll. Coach Colvin arrived at CSHS in the winter of 2001 for the 2001-2002 soccer season and won a Regional Championship in his first season. In his 24 seasons Coach Colvin has compiled a career mark of 500 wins, 91 losses and 51 ties in 642 career matches.

To say Coach Colvin has built a soccer dynasty here in Dragon land – well that just might be an understatement. In his twenty-four seasons, he has claimed 15 district championships, 22 bi-district championships, 17 area championships, 5 regional championships and 3 state championships.

Coach Colvin’s impact on his teams and players has been immeasurable. Eighty-six Lady Dragons have gone on to continue their soccer careers at the next level. Two have claimed Gatorade State Players of the Year awards, Kristen Moran and Kennedy Fuller, and Fuller was named National Gatorade Player of the Year.

Five Lady Dragons have gone on to play professional soccer. One has played at the national team level.

In his time at the helm of SCLDS, Coach Colvin has always had a winning season – qualifying for the playoffs in every year that there has been post-season play. His career winning percentage is around 81%.

Twenty four seasons ago, when Coach Colvin arrived on campus, our current Athletic Director, Coach Riley Dodge, was a 4th grade ball boy for Coach Todd Dodge. And the author of this post was a Senior in high school, who was immersed in the beautiful game as one of Coach Colvin’s student staff members. Matt Colvin had just recently graduated from college and upon being named head coach at Southlake Carroll he needed varsity assistants. Enter Paul Lee, Carolyn Atkins and Lindsey Jacobson. The three of them would become Carroll LDS coaching staff for decades forming a fearsome triumvirate that would help shape the Carroll dynasty.

With tonight’s victory, we believe Coach Colvin has become the only girls coach in Texas UIL history to have 500 wins, 3 state titles and do all this at one school.

Congratulations to our Coach!!
