Carroll ISD is proud to welcome home Dragon alumnus and cross country legend Reed Brown, who is joining the district as the new Assistant Cross Country Coach and CTE teacher at Carroll Senior High School.

A K–12 product of Carroll ISD, Reed Brown is a name etched in Dragon athletic history. As a student-athlete, he dominated both cross country and track, ultimately becoming one of the most accomplished distance runners in Texas high school history. Under the leadership of Head Coach Justin Leonard, Brown won multiple state and national championships, and in 2017 became just the tenth U.S. high schooler ever to run a sub-4-minute mile.

While at Carroll, Brown was named the 2015 Texas Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year—an award recognizing not only athletic excellence, but also academic achievement, personal character, and leadership through volunteerism and sportsmanship. He went on to compete at the University of Oregon, where he was part of an NCAA National Championship team and continued to shine on the national stage. After college, Brown pursued a professional running career and later co-founded the Lonestar Running Company, combining his passion for the sport with a commitment to community.

"I was a K–12 student at Carroll and enjoyed every moment of it," Brown shares. "I grew up playing every sport I could, but in high school, I focused on cross country and track. Thanks to the incredible guidance and leadership I received at Carroll, I was able to win multiple state and national championships and carry on the great tradition of Dragon Athletics. Now, I hope to help young students and athletes do the same—pursuing their passions and striving for greatness in whatever path they choose."

Brown returns to work alongside his former coach and mentor, State Champion Head Coach Justin Leonard, whose program continues to produce elite runners like Caden Leonard, who recently captured gold in the 3200 at the 6A State Meet.

In addition to coaching cross country and track, Brown will be teaching Sports Marketing and a business course at Carroll Senior High School.

His return marks a full-circle moment and the beginning of a new chapter—one where he passes on his wisdom, work ethic, and Dragon pride to a new generation of students and athletes.
