Dragon Cross Country opened their season Saturday morning with the Southlake 2 Mile Invitational with an opening win, because after all Cross Country wins!

The Dragons who open the season in search of a SEVEN peat - yes that's a thing - were lead by some new faces this week as Kai Gutierrez was the Dragon's top runner with a time of 9:08. His top finish lead the Dragons to a 27 point victory and near perfect score over 2nd place Byron Nelson.

Of course you don't win a Cross Country meet with just one top runner, you win with team scores. Several Dragons had an outstanding day as senior Michael Fuller came in 2nd at 9:20, juniors Jaxon Glenn came in 4th at 9:32, Adhaven Palanivelrajan came in 5th at 9:40 and Claudio Auns came in 6th at 9:42.

The Lady Dragons also opened their season with a strong day on the course lead by senior Lilah Gornell in 8th at 11:33, then junior Grace McIlvain took 16th at 12:02 followed by freshman Nora Farden in 17th at 12:02 and senior Haley Badgett in 18th at 12:14.

Head Coach Justin Leonard was pleased with his season debut saying "We're really proud of how our team opened the season today. The athletes showed great energy, effort and teamwork in the 2-mile opener, and this race set a strong foundation for the rest of our cross country season."

If you'll allow me the obligatory cliche - the season is off and running - for Dragon and Lady Dragon Cross Country. Up next the teams head to the Coach T Invite hosted by Marcus at North Lakes Park in Denton on Saturday, August, 30th.
