On Thursday the Dragon and Lady Dragon Cross Country teams took their first steps on the road to state, as the Dragons Cross Country team took the 4-6A title, with a team total of 24 points. Remember in CXC low numbers are great and high numbers mean you finish lower in the standings. So, Carroll's 24 and Keller's 39 are better than Nelson's 86.

The Dragons crossed the line with a team time of 15:34.5 and Kai Gutierrez earned an individual gold with a time of 15:23.30 while Claudio Auns finished in silver medal position for the Dragons with a time of 15:27.40.
The Lady Dragons finished in silver medal position with 40 points while the Lady Indians had 37. Abigail Perez also earned an individual title with a time of 18:02.21 passing two runners in the final stretch.

District 4-6A is widely known as one of the toughest districts in the state. Multiple time state championship winning coach Justin Leonard was thrilled with the day's results saying he is proud of the way all athletes competed. "Kai and Abigail showed tremendous poise and toughness to earn individual titles. Our boys executed well as a team and our girls battled all the way to the finish in a very close championship race."

Up next is the Region 1 meet next Monday, October 26th in Lubbock at Mae Simmons Park. The girls run at 9:00 am and the boys at 9:30 am.
