The District 5-6A girls basketball season hit the midpoint Friday with each team having faced every district opponent once as squads gear up for the homestretch and potential impending postseason play.

For the second year in a row, the district is tightly contested at the top of the standings with four teams within one game of first place, including three tied at the top of the heap.

A year ago, Trinity took the title with Lewisville, Hurst L.D. Bell and Flower Mound tying for second and claiming the three remaining playoff berths.

The 2017 campaign finds different results, though a few programs remain in the hunt to repeat as playoff representatives.

Below is a look at the how the standings look entering the second half of district play, including second-half tilts that were contested on Tuesday.

4. Southlake Carroll (5-3)

The 2016-17 campaign saw a youthful Southlake Carroll team struggle in its debut season in 5-6A with the Lady Dragons finishing in seventh and snapping what was a nine-year playoff streak.

And while Carroll still boats a relatively young roster, the Lady Dragons have bounced back this year under head coach Teri Morrison and have positioned themselves squarely in the playoff hunt.

Carroll leads Bell by one game and sixth-place Marcus by two games, though the Lady Marauders did top the Lady Dragons in the first half of the round robin.

Carroll has performed well offensively thus far, and improvements defensively and on the boards in the second half should have the Lady Dragons back in their customary position of participating in the playoffs.
