On paper, in the annals of Lady Dragon Soccer for 2018, tonight's game will look like a rather pedestrian 3-0 shutout. That doesn't tell the story, however. The Lady Dragons played perhaps the wettest, wildest shutout in the LDS history, as the picture below can attest.
First Georgie Phelps got the SLC ladies on the board, taking advantage of a great through ball and the ability to keep her own feet while the Flower Mound defenders could not. GOAL! Then half the team got credited with an assist on goal #2 as Gilpin2Tufts2Phelps2Drenowatz,resulted in a beautiful wet weather goal and a 2-0 lead.
Despite all the elements the Lady Dragons added another, because as assistant Coach Paul Lee always says "The weather's just perfect for us." Taylor Tufts got on the board with goal #3, as she couldn't be left out of the slip and slide fun.
The irony was, despite the mud and muck, the Lady Dragon defense kept a clean sheet as Flower Mound mustered only a couple of moments of danger all night.
SLC, 13-1-1 overal and 8-0 in district now heads to Trinity on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:30pm.
