If the first two rounds of the UIL Soccer Playoffs were rather uncomplicated for your Lady Dragons tonight's victory was chalked full of drama. If this weekend's final four lives up to the caliber of play we saw on the soccer pitch tonight we are all in for a treat.

The Lady Dragons lodged the first threat in the game's opening minute only to see it sail just over the crossbar. Coppell then owned much of the rest of the first half but the Lady Dragon backline stood staunch on set pieces, turning away four Coppell corner kicks. The Lady Dragons lone other threat of the first half was converted by Madi Drenowatz who chipped in another on a her team leading goal tally for 2019.

Madi Martin stood on her head and played perhaps her best match as a Lady Dragon - and folks that is a high bar.

SLC looked like they were going to sneak out of Denton with a 1-0 win until Coppell earned another set piece and bombed a corner kick into the back of the net to knot things at 1. Coppell pushed forward for the final 10 minutes of regulation desperately seeking the game winner. But several dangerous crosses were turned away and the Lady Dragons were very grateful to see overtime.

Normally in an overtime game both teams start out the extra stanza cautious, feeling each other out, hoping for that one moment of brilliance. The first two minutes of overtime for your Lady Dragons tonight however provided more lightening that tomorrow's expected thunderstorms in DFW.

First before anyone who left the stands in the break could return Taylor Tufts provided one of the more memorable goals in recent Lady Dragon Soccer history. This was less than 30 seconds into overtime. Then, abra cadabra, Karina Owens added the helper that we had all been waiting for off an assist from Kendall Gilpin. This bought the team another week of practice together.

Your Lady Dragons are now 24-1-2 thanks to the 3-1 victory tonight in the Region 1 Quarterfinals. They are headed for the Region 1 Tournament which for the first time will be held at the new McKinney ISD Stadium on Friday, April 12th.
