It was the match they had waited all year for, so why not wait an extra 4 hours. When the two teams, Lady Dragon Soccer and JJ Pearce, finally got on the pitch it took all of three minutes for the issue to be decided.
When Taylor Tufts assisted Sydney Nobles on the game's first goal it set a tone. LDS was ready to play. Five more first half goals would follow in which Tufts would have an assist on four of them and a goal on the other.
Yes, that's right. Lady Dragon Soccer took a regional final against the hottest team in the Metroplex and turned it into a 6-0 game by the half.
Tufts assisted Madi Drenowatz on the second goal then Nobles and Tufts said "the first time was so much fun - let's do it again!" staking SLC to a 3-0. Then Tufts and Nobles flip flopped as Tufts scored goal #4 while Nobles had the assist. Tufts continued to be unmarkable as she drew half of the Mustang defense to her before finding a wide open Sarah Hornyak for goal #5 of the first stanza. Karina Owens finished off the Regional Tournament score line off an assist from - well, you know who by this point don't you - Tufts, for what would turn out to be the 6-0 final margin.
The Lady Dragons authored one of their greatest performances in school history today and punched themselves - their 5th ticket - to the State Tournament in program history.
The Lady Dragon coaching staff would like to extend special thanks to the numerous LDS alumni who reached out with pre-game texts before the game today. Your heartfelt support of Lady Dragon Soccer is always appreciated and we thank you all.
