It's 109 degrees outside when you factor in the heat index. What better time to head inside to a gym and check out your Lady Dragons while they opened the 2019 season of Lady Dragon Volleyball.

Day two of the "Battle for the Rock" brought another day of great competition for your Lady Dragon Volleyball team. After opening 2-0 with wins over Allen and Lake Highland yesterday, both in three set sweeps, the team drew Prosper in a winner's bracket matchup to begin day two of a shortened Rockwall Tournament.

Prosper showed why they are one of the favorites to win Region 2. In the morning match the Lady Eagles sent the Lady Dragons to their first defeat with a 3-0 victory. But even when you find your way to the 3rd place match you face stiff competition. Another match, another perennial Regional contender in McKinney Boyd. The team responded great with a 25-11 opening set which saw the team play their best overall volleyball to date. Then they continued the strong play with a 25-23 W and finished the brooming with a 26-24 victory. Note: the 26-24 set was the third to go to overtime this weekend.

Overall, second year Head Coach Teresa Dunn was pleased with the play of her team in the opening weekend of the 2019 Lady Dragon Volleyball season. She said "this team did exactly what I asked them to do. We battled for every point and we will get better. We showed moments of brilliance and we have some things to work on, but this is the nature of August."

Anybody who has glanced at the 2019 roster knows there are some new faces mixing in with Carroll's college bound returners. Anna Proskovec and Audrey Kubiak had strong opening days while Jessica Dunn, sophomore setter, had a strong Saturday as well. Junior Keagan Polk had a strong match vs. Boyd while adjusting to the Libero position. As for those college bound returners I was speaking of Annabelle Smith was voted All-Tournament Team for her stellar play.

Carroll has little time to implement the lessons learned from this weekend. After one day of practice they will take on another area powerhouse when they face Lovejoy in their first true road match on Tuesday, August 13th at 6:30pm.
