In 2019 Lady Dragon Soccer had a euphoric day in Georgetown, capturing the State title 5-0. Today, they um, did the impossible, again, capturing the title for the second time in three years over Rockwall with a 4-0 win.
All season the refrain was the same. Carroll's good, but nah, they're way too young. In three years they'll be awesome so said the experts. Today the Lady Dragons, who start six Freshman, four sophomores and a senior said "we are not going to wait three years to get our rings - state title rings that is."
And the one senior, Hanna Kahn, the Trinity signee, oh yeah, she has two rings in four years on varsity.
Today, the Lady Dragons reminded us why soccer is "The Beautiful Game." Freshman Kennedy Fuller had a state title game Hat Trick, joining her Lady Dragon teammates from 2019 in having a state title game Hat Trick. Madi Drenowitz also pulled off the rare feat in 2019.
I know this movie is about golf, but in the "Legend of Bagger Vance" actor Matt Damon tells his caddy "I can't do this anymore. It was too long ago." His caddy responds "oh no, sir it was only a moment ago." 2019 feels like a millennium ago but today Lady Dragon soccer reached across time and brought us all back because it was just a moment ago, right?
Head Lady Dragon Soccer coach Matt Colvin has his third state title since coming to Carroll in 2001. Today's starting eleven join the 2008 and 2019 teams in the pantheon of state champions. And six of today's Lady Dragon Soccer starters were born the year some of us, I'll let you figure out who, graduated college. But that doesn't matter, today they became Lady Dragon Soccer legend.
See you all in the Hall of Honor some day soon. Well done Lady Dragons and congratulations.
