Cross Country went to Lubbock yesterday for the Region 1 meet. The Dragons dominated the field, winning by an eye-popping 76 points over second place Coppell.

And the Lady Dragons extended their streak of Regional qualifications to almost two generations - qualifying for the 26th consecutive time! (Hey folks - to state again - TWENTY SIX years in a row - the Lady Dragon Cross Country team has made it to STATE!) Unbelievable!

It is the 13th straight year of qualification for the boys and they will be looking for a 4-peat when they hit Old Settler's Park as they enter the meet as back-to-back-to-back State champions.

To the details of this particular race - yesterday the Dragons were led by senior Logan Cantu who finished second overall with a time of 15:21. Sophomore Blake Bullard finished 4th with a time of 15:38, followed by junior Jude Alvarez in 5th at 15:39, senior Robert Freeman was 6th at 15:42 and freshman Caden Leonard was 8th at 15:47.

On the Lady Dragon side the Lady Dragons were led by Ava Bushaw who finished 2nd overall at 17:25. Junior Sylvia Schwedler was 7th at 18:06, Senior Audrey Dunn was 8th at 18:15, sophomore Elizabeth Smits was 15th at 18:51 and sophomore Sarayu Veluri was 24th at 19:09.

Another squad ran a very excellent race to push the Lady Dragons to the silver medal position by just one point. But it is Round Rock that gets remembered.

Carroll Head Coach Justin Leonard was ecstatic with the way the meet went. "I'm really proud of our young men and women. This is always such a tough region, and our runners rose to the challenge. We have five of the top 10 boys finishers, and three of the top 10 girls. The boys are excited to have the opportunity to defend their state championship again, and the girls are looking forward to getting another shot at Flower Mound."

The UIL 6A state championship meet is Nov. 5th at Old Settler's park in Round Rock, Texas.
