We would say what the boys Cross Country team did on Friday morning is unprecedented, except it has been done once before in program history. The Southlake Carroll Dragons captured their FOURTH consecutive State Championship and 8th overall in program history.

The state title captured by the gentlemen is the 16th Cross Country title in school history and 15th for head coach Justin Leonard. Now that the outstanding program history lesson has been told, down to the fact of Friday's meet at Old Settler's Park.

The Dragons were led by freshman Caden Leonard who finished 5th individually in the state with a time of 15:56. Junior Jude Alvarez finished in 8th at 15:59. Senior Logan Cantu was 13th at 16:08 and sophomore Blake Bullard was 17th at 16:16. Senior Robert Freeman was 19th at 16:19, Junior Zach Troutman was 22nd at 16:21 and senior Tyler Ortiz was 55th at 16:58. Head Coach Justin Leonard was ecstatic with his team's performance saying "words cannot describe how proud I am of our young men and women. It takes year round dedication to succeed at our sport and four straight titles for the boys is a testament to just how hard they work every single day."

The Lady Dragons also had a strong day on the course as they finished just behind Region 1 champion Flower Mound who won their third consecutive state title. The Lady Dragons were led by Senior Ava Bushaw who finished in 4th overall with a time of 17:58. Junior Sylvia Schwedler was next in 6th at 18:16 followed by senior Audrey Dunn in 7th at 18:36. Elizabeth Smits was 16th at 18:56 and junior Alexandra Walsh with 18th at 18:58. The final two finishers were sophomore Sarayu Veluri in 25th at 19:24 and senior Natalie Ng in 41st at 19:56. The ladies continued a streak that dates back to 1996 - that was the first year of 26 consecutive years that the Lady Dragons have qualified for the UIL state meet! The Lady Dragons finished in silver medal position this year.

An odd side note from the meet - every one of the Dragon's state titles - this is their 8th - have come as a part of four peats. The first four peat finished in 2012 and now a decade later the Dragons have dominated for four straight years again!

What a season for both the Dragons and Lady Dragon Cross Country teams!
