And they are off!! The quad-peating Dragon state champions are back - picking up right where they left off by winning the Southlake Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Caden Leonard took top honors for the Boys Elite Varsity as he finished in 2nd place overall at 14:32. Blake Bullard was just behind him finishing in 4th place overall with a time of 14:34. Jude Alvarez was the next closest Dragon finisher finishing in 12th place overall at 14:51.
The Lady Dragons, the state silver medalist from a year ago, also picked up right where they left off finishing in 2nd, just two points behind Lucas Lovejoy. Alexandra Walsh won the individual title for the 2nd consecutive year with a time of 17:01. Finishing in bronze medal position overall was Elizabeth Smits at 17:25. Then Vanessa Vezga took 9th overall at 17:52.
"This was a great way to start the season, " Head Coach Justin Leonard said. "There's always a lot of excitement for the opening meet, especially when it's on your home course. Our young men and women handled their emotions - and the heat - well and ran hard."
The season is in full stride as next Saturday the Dragons head to the Coach T Invitational at North Lakes Park in Denton.
