Southlake Carroll Cross Country has its one for the thumb! If you are wondering what the heck I am talking about - the Southlake Carroll Cross Country boys team won its FIFTH consecutive state title on Saturday. This means the coaching staff at least can wear a state championship ring on every finger - plus the thumb.
And every member of the senior class has four consecutive state titles. And in a program that you would think could make no more history the Dragons registered their 14th consecutive year - in the words of Yukon Cornelius - of claiming "Silver and Gold" finishing first or second at the UIL state meet. Interesting footnote - all of Carroll's team titles - Saturday was their 9th overall - have come as part of repeats. The first four titles came consecutively ending in 2012 and now a five peat! To quote LeBron "not 5, not 6, not 7, not 8, but 9 - Let's Go"
Sophomore Caden Leonard took his place Saturday morning among the elite Dragon runners in history as he became the first individual state champion in program history - winning the title in 15:00 flat! It was Leonard's third straight individual championship in the post-season. He won the district 4-6A meet and the Region 1 meet as well.
The Lady Dragons had a very strong day, finishing second at the state meet for the third consecutive year, just behind Flower Mound.
The Dragons now have a legacy cemented in GOLD!
