First, an editorial disclosure. If you have been following this site for a while you have seen hundreds of post from me at least, but you may not know that the manager of this site is a proud Texas Alum who spent many many hours at Gregory Gym watching @Texas Volleyball battle Nebraska. So on behalf of all of us who struggled to get over what we all refer to as the Nebraska hump, thank you to SLC4Life alumnus Asjia O'Neal who helped lead the Longhorns to their second consecutive NATIONAL TITLE and fifth overall.
O'Neal set her personal best aces mark in a single match today in the NCAA championship match vs. Nebraska with 5 aces from the service line including 4 consecutive, which led the Longhorns to a 3-set sweep over the Cornhuskers. The Lady Longhorns started the season 3-5 and finished 28-4 on the year to claim their second consecutive national title. Asjia, a 6 year senior, has been a part of both of the Longhorn's back to back national titles and finished the match with her 5th and final ace on the day on championship point.
Asjia O'Neal is likely headed for the 2023 Olympics in Paris after one of the best careers in Texas Volleyball history. The 2018 SLC grad, who over came two open heart surgeries before becoming a national champion has left a legacy.
Congratulations to a two time champ. Enjoy the lit burnt orange tower tonight and we here at SLC Athletics salute your passion and drive for the sport of volleyball. Now and forever a champion.
