Dragon Baseball earns two tools with sweep of Thursday games at Five Tool Festival. The day opened weirdly blustery and cold but this did not slow down the Dragons timely offense and clutch pitching.
The Dragons earned their first come from behind victory of the year as they initially trailed 1-0. They took advantage of every opportunity in this game however as the Dragons capitalized on a bases loaded walk by Anthony LLera and then Jameson Lucky laid down a text book safety squeeze later in the inning to give SLC a 2-1 lead. For the pitching Ethan Holt was almost flawless on the mound over 4 innings giving up one run and striking out four. The Dragons would add 2 more runs for the eventual 4-1 victory.
At the Five Tool there is little time to celebrate a big win as just a little over three hours later in came Queen Creek, Arizona. The runner up in the state of Arizona last year looked to provide a challenge to the Dragons in the night cap. But the Dragons leapt out to a 5-0 lead with a strong second inning. Evan Robson had a 2 run double , Grant Moore doubled his fun, picking up an RBI, and Davis Perkins had a 2 run single. That would be all the scoring for the Dragons on the night and it would be up to the pitching and defense from there. Starter Max Wu earned his second win on the year, improving to 2-0, striking out eight over five innings. Cannon Fechter picked up his first save on the year, striking out two over one inning in a scoreless 7th. The Dragons, 6-2, earned the 5-3 win and now move on to two more outstanding opponents today, beginning a t 1:30pm.
First the Dragons face The Woodlands in what both teams are hoping is a state tournament preview. There is a combined 8 state champions in Texas between these two schools with the Dragons having five and The Woodlands earning three. At 6:30 PM the team takes on a powerhouse from The Hawaiian island in Kamehameha Kapalama.
