Tonight, Dragon Baseball honored a former Dragon legend. At home plate, prior to this evening’s game, Chris Chaconas, #22, aka “The Colonel” was honored with a Memory Bench. Gathered around this specially designed bench that will remain in the Dragon Baseball Complex, friends and family of Chris Chaconas joined with current Dragon Baseball team members to honor his legacy.

Chris, class of 2000, was the emotional spark plug for a very gutty group in the spring of 1999 that would unexpectedly reach the third round of the playoffs after catching fire down the second half of the season. People still remember his legendary grand slam against Coppell that sparked the playoff run. Most people don’t remember that he batted over .300 in the playoffs, or that he led the Dragons in stolen bases in 2000, but most everyone remembers “The Colonel” and his boundless energy and love of Dragon Baseball. His wit and twinkling eyes could be seen from centerfield where he roamed like a cheetah daring the opposition to please hit him a ball that he could run down.

Dragon Baseball and our rich history is better because Chris Chaconas loved being a Dragon!
