There is a famous line from the movie Gladiator in which the main character played by Russell Crowe throws down his shield and says "are you not entertained?" If nothing else when the 2019 season of Lady Dragon Volleyball is over no one will ever say this squad is not entertaining.

For the second consecutive day at the NISD Tournament LDVB kept us on the edge of our seats. And despite dropping their first two sets of the tournament today the team made sure to spread them among two different matches. One against Aledo and one against Vandergrift, which means in each case we win 2-1 and have another undefeated day in Northwest.

This means, after two days of play, your Lady Dragons move to the championship bracket and have the chance to play for it all beginning Saturday morning. At 9:15 am the Lady Dragons will take on Lovejoy. Wait, didn't we just say that? Oh wait, we just played them on Tuesday. Seldom do you get a chance to make up for one of your two losses so quickly.

On day two at the 64 team monstrosity of a tournament, junior MB Laura Bramblia had a very strong day. Her play in the middle was stellar, but her off the court assistance to Lady Dragon teammates when she was subbed out was also key, according to second year head coach Teresa Dunn. Of course we don't even get to the Vandergrift match with a chance to play for the title unless we work our way past the Aledo Bearcats in the day's opening session. The Lady Dragons had taken the day's opening set smartly by a score of 25-20 before withstanding a Bearcat whitewashing in the middle set. The tone of this entire tournament hung in the balance. Would we be spending Saturday in a less than championship environment? No, said sophomore MB Courtney Darrah who entered the match just at this point and according to Dunn had a "rockstar" third set at a very critical time. The momentum from the Aledo match didn't exactly carry into the opening set against Austin Vandergrift, despite being up 21-15 the Lady Dragons fell 21-25 and were pushed against the wall for the next two sets. No problem, the most flawless two sets of the year followed as LDVB stormed back to overwhelm Austin Vanderrgrift in the next two sets to punch their tickets to Byron HS and the championship bracket. Every facility in the NWISD is being used this weekend and it is on to Byron HS tomorrow. And now for the Lady Dragons, 8-2, only three matches stand between them and a really nice trophy.

Lovejoy at 9:15am Saturday morning at Byron HS in day three of the NWISD tournament - bring your coffee and donuts and shouting voices.
