For two days your Lady Dragon Volleyball team rolled through the competition at the NWISD Classic at every campus in NWISD with the exception of Eaton. To say they did anything but hit a little hiccup in the opener this morning against Lovejoy would be disingenuous as for the second time in three days your favorite volleyball team suffered a setback at the hands of the 5A powerhouse. However, they picked right back up again with wins over district opponent Eaton and Lewisville Hebron. Let us not forget that Hebron has won state 3-4 last years. And the team to end that run was your Lady Dragons in the bi-district round of the playoffs last year.
In three days LDVB went 7-1 while dropping a grand total of 4 sets. They have rolled through the first two weeks of pre-season with a 10-3 mark. They finished 5th in the NWISD Classic. While that may not sound really impressive let us remember there were 64 teams in the NWISD tournament starting the weekend. So a 5th place finish means your Lady Dragons finished ahead of 59 teams.
Second year head coach Teresa Dunn had nothing but praise for her team. She said "I was very impressed again by our resiliency. Obviously we weren't great this morning and then we got right back off the mat to beat two great teams, one of which we will see in district play."
This team may be deeper than some Lady Dragon teams in recent memory, as sophomore outside hitter Carys Thomas had a great day off the bench. Stanford commit Annabelle Smith continues to be one of the most consistent players in the Metroplex as the senior registered her second straight All Tournament team.
Up next, get excited, as your Lady Dragons are actually coming home. Yes, we do get to use our home gym every once in a while. They open the 2019 home schedule with the home lid lifter against Grapevine on Tuesday, August 20th at 6:30PM. Your favorite volleyball team is requesting a packed house on the second day of school. We need everyone to help defeat our cross-town rival.
