The entire Carroll Cross Country team was in action last weekend to kickoff the 2019 season. And if you know anything about CXC, you know that is ALOT of athletes! There were four Dragon and Lady Dragon Cross Country teams in action at the Friday Night Lights meet in The Woodlands and three at Greenhill in the Six-Mile Relay.

Out of all the teams in action the Lady Dragons Elite Varsity A team took top honors this weekend in a mud pit of a course against elite competition in The Woodlands. They finished in 1st place lead by Jenna Holland in 6th coming in at 12:02 with Katherine McElaney so close behind her in 7th at 12:04. Kaylie Cox in 12th at 12:10 and Abigail McIlvain at 18th at 12:22, Tatum Foreman in 19th at 12:25, Lydia Low in 23rd at 12:32 and Alexa Karmis in 27th at 12:36. WHEW a tightly bunched field.

The Dragon Elite Varsity A Team had a strong meet as well, finishing in Silver medal position led by Nate Lannen in 3rd at 12:34. In 13th was Matthew Sims at 13:11 and then 17th was Tim McElaney in 13:18. The Dragon Varsity B Team took Silver in their race as well with Chris Tracht coming in 2nd at 13:24, Kieran Beirne in 7th at 13:37 and Matt Hetrick in 8th at 13:40.

While the school year has just begun the Dragon and Lady Dragon Cross Country team has been hard at work for nearly a month now. And they were ecstatic to see other teams to run against. Carroll's Cross Country head man, Justin Leonard said they were thrilled with the weekend's results in which three teams medalled and multiple teams finished the in top 10 at both The Woodlands and the Greenhill Six-Mile Relay. Coach Leonard said "We are proud of how our kids competed this weekend at both meets. It was nice to finally run against some other schools and unfamiliar competition. It's been a long summer and we are just excited to get the season started."

Up next the teams will be in action in Denton for the Marcus 1 Invitational held at North Lakes Park on Saturday, August 31st.
